Poetry Prompt

June 29, 2007

This post continues my offer of poetry prompts while I’m on vacation.

Create a poem in the form of some kind of official document.

Need examples? Here you go:

  • A love poem in the form of a traffic ticket
  • A poem in the style of a will
  • A poem in the form of a junk mail letter

Please post your efforts in the comments section. We’d love to see them!

Dear Poet,

Start writing those forms you once feared,
use templates, double-click to highlight
any word, again to Suggest Alternate Verbs.
Never lose another poem to forgetfulness:
each keyword carefully indexed and cross-linked,
your lost love always close as the smallest finger
reaching for Find, Undo, Replace. Do you need
to insert a symbol? There’s a button.
The thesaurus will take your head off.
Network your ideas or save locally to folders
we’ve named Loneliness, Springtime, and To be Revised . . .
